Giclée Fine Art Reproductions Giclée: Pronounced (“zhee-clay” or “gee-clay”) Definition The word Giclée is a French term, meaning “to spray on” or ”to spray ink”. This basically describes this “state of the art” process for creating the most accurate and vivid reproductions of the artist’s original painting. The Process The reproduction process is digital . First, the artist’s original painting is either scanned or digitally photographed and then stored in a computer. Next, the artist working with our technical staff, color correct and adjust the digital file so that it matches the original painting precisely. As many as a dozen test prints are produced to ensure that the final product is perfect - a work of art in itself. Once this has been achieved, we add a special “Authentic Giclée” seal to the image. It is a very subtle impression added to the image in the area of the artist’s signature. We do this so that the Giclée reproduction is never mistaken for the original. Finally, the digital file is archived on a computer disk. Production To produce the finished product a print command is sent to the Giclée PrintmakerFA™; this is a very highly evolved form of a digital inkjet printer. Where the inkjet printer you may own prints on paper up to 11” x 14” in as many as 6 colors, the Giclée PrintmakerFA™ prints on Fine Art Detail Canvas up to 36” x 48” in as many as 12 colors. The Colorspan® Inks we use are the finest available and are guaranteed not to fade for generations. Finishing Touches Once the printing process has been completed, the Giclée is allowed to dry and then treated with a special UV protective coating. Next the canvas is stretched over a frame and takes it finished form. As a final enhancement, the artist embellishes each Giclée by adding several touches of paint to the image before signing the canvas. This ensures that each Giclée Reproduction is truly unique.
